{"id":2618,"date":"2018-04-27T11:17:15","date_gmt":"2018-04-27T11:17:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/esu-online.org\/new2022\/together-moving-forward-visit-projects\/"},"modified":"2018-04-27T11:17:15","modified_gmt":"2018-04-27T11:17:15","slug":"together-moving-forward-visit-projects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/esu-online.org\/together-moving-forward-visit-projects\/","title":{"rendered":"Together Moving Forward visit projects working on access to Education for Refugees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Between 19 and 22 April 2018, as part of \u2018<a href=\"http:\/\/esu-online.org\/?project=together-moving-forward\">Together Moving Forward<\/a>\u2019, we went to Berlin to talk with the initiators of <a href=\"http:\/\/esu-online.org\/?project=fzs-shams-student-refugees-berlin\">SHAMS<\/a>, a project led by refugee students aiming to provide information to other refugees and asylum seekers who want to access the Higher Education system in Germany: procedures, documentation and the different opportunities they can apply for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A workshop, brochures and personalised consultation were facilitated in order to develop the initiative.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">During the visit, we interviewed Izem G\u00fcnyakti, one of the initiators of the project:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018We found an information gap [&#8230;] then the idea started as what we can achieve in a very short time (to counter this lack of information)?\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018We saw there was a network evolving [&#8230;] our biggest achievement is that we are still keeping this network including refugee and asylum seekers prospective students, advocates and other organisations giving support in the sense of counselling services\u2019<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thereupon, we arrived at our second stop, Warsaw; where we met the people behind <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/FundacjaPrzestrzenWspolna\/\">Fundacja Przestrze\u0144 Wsp\u00f3lna<\/a> who are running the project \u2018Students for Refugee Kids\u2019. They are a group of -mainly- student volunteers who tutor refugee children helping them with homework and Polish language skills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Natalia Kur is one of the volunteers participating in the programme: \u2018I help with many different things [&#8230;] I feel I am a member of the family\u2019 she said, thinking of continuing working on it for the next edition.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">We also spoke with Maria Zlonkiewicz, coordinator of the project: \u2018the support is really important, we are having regular evaluation meetings [&#8230;] they (the volunteers) have access to psychologists, my support as a coordinator, cultural mentors [&#8230;] and they have access to funds to do integration meetings with the kids, to buy materials for their classes, etc.\u2019<\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: justify;\">Background<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018Together, Moving Forward\u2019 is ESU small grants programme willing to build positive refugee-host interactions across Europe.
